Arkansas Works Medicaid

Arkansas Works is a Medicaid program that offers eligible Arkansans health insurance coverage. The insurance is offered through qualified health plans from three companies:
-
Arkansas BlueCross BlueShield
-
Arkansas Health & Wellness (Ambetter)
-
Qualchoice

Who can get Arkansas Works insurance through the Medicaid program?

Arkansans ages 19-64 who have a household income of up to 138 percent of Federal Poverty Level (FPL) for their household size may be eligible for Arkansas Works.

The FPL amount is set by the federal government. Find the size of your household, then look to the dollar amount to see the limit on income. For households larger than 8 people, the income amount increases. You can contact your local county office for more information.

Will I have any costs for my Arkansas Works insurance?

Maybe. Eligibility for Arkansas Works is based on your income, and the costs you pay as part of having that insurance is also based on how much you make. If your income is 100 percent of FPL or lower, then you will not have costs that you have to pay for your insurance.

If your income is between 100 percent and 138 percent of FPL, then you will have to pay a monthly cost, called a premium, for the insurance. The premium amount for all Arkansas Works enrollees who have a premium is $13 per month.

Your insurance company will bill you each month for the premium. If you do not pay your monthly premium, the Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) will let the state Department of Finance & Administration (DFA) know that you did not pay. If you were eligible for an income tax refund, the amount you owe can be held out of your refund. If the amount you owe is more than the amount of your refund, you will not receive a state income tax refund, because all of the refund would go to pay those costs.

You also may be required to pay a co-pay, a payment at the doctor’s office when you have your visit. Under the Arkansas Works program the most you can be asked to pay in co-pays is $60 each quarter (three months).
